State Rep. John Roth today supported a state budget that prioritizes fiscal responsibility, increases accountability in government, and invests in the services that matter most to Michigan families.
“Michigan taxpayers expect their government to spend wisely and live within its means,” Roth said. “This budget reflects those priorities by eliminating unnecessary spending, strengthening oversight, and ensuring taxpayer dollars are directed where they’ll have the greatest impact.”
The $75.2 billion budget reduces state spending compared to last year while maintaining funding for essential government services. The plan avoids broad tax increases and includes reforms aimed at reducing fraud, waste, and abuse across state government. The budget also enhances oversight of public assistance programs with additional safeguards to help ensure food assistance benefits are reserved for those who qualify.
It further establishes protections against politically motivated litigation from the Attorney General targeting Michigan’s energy producers, preventing taxpayer resources from being used to pursue frivolous lawsuits against lawful businesses operations.
“Public officials should be focused on creating certainty for employers and protecting taxpayers, not advancing political agendas through the courts,” Roth said. “They should not be using taxpayer dollars to wage lawsuits that advance policies the public never endorsed.”
School funding was increased to $10,300 per pupil, demonstrating firm commitment to investing in Michigan’s next generation.
“This budget recognizes that education should remain one of our highest priorities,” Roth said. “A quality education opens doors for young people and strengthens our state’s future. It’s a responsible investment that benefits students without losing sight of our obligation to protect taxpayer dollars.”
