On Thursday, State Rep. Jaime Greene (R-Richmond) introduced a resolution to honor the men and women who valiantly served our nation by commemorating Purple Heart Day in the State of Michigan. Greene’s House Resolution 147 cites the extraordinary heroism and acts of service of those in our armed forces and establishes August 7th, 2025, as Purple Heart Day.

“The Purple Heart is our nation’s oldest military decoration, and there are few recognitions that serve as a better testament to the selflessness and courage of the recipient,” Greene said. “We owe our everlasting gratitude to those who served, and that’s all the more true for those who were wounded in the line of duty. Assigning a day to recognize all those in Michigan who received the Purple Heart is a small way to show that gratitude.”

Greene herself is a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served as a cryptologist after enlisting out of high school. Her service also prompted her to later work as a Veterans Counselor, helping connect veterans with the services they needed as they transition to civilian life.

Since being elected to the Legislature, Greene has worked tirelessly to make Michigan a more welcoming environment for veterans. She has headed up the Michigan House’s veterans caucus, and earlier this term, she introduced bills that would designate Michigan as a Purple Heart State and establish an apprenticeship program for National Guard service members. Her newest piece of legislation establishing a Purple Heart Day marks another effort of hers to honor the service and sacrifice of Michigan’s veterans.
