The ceremony honors first responders and members of the military from Michigan, including those who have died in the line of duty. BeGole specifically honored Shiawassee County Sheriff’s Deputy Darrell Henderson, who passed away due to complications from COVID-19 in 2021, and U.S. Army Pfc. Shane Cantu, who was killed by an explosive device in Afghanistan in 2012. Cantu was a graduate of Corunna High School in Shiawassee County, an area BeGole represents as part of the 71st Michigan House District.
