Rep. Green: More disappointed in what governor’s ‘stay home’ order doesn’t do for Thumb families

State Rep. Phil Green of Millington today issued a statement after Gov. Whitmer issued an extended and expanded COVID-19 ‘stay home’ order. The order now runs through April 30 and closes down more portions of store operations:

“While my top priority is obviously lessening the spread of COVID-19 and keeping people healthy, I believe the governor missed an opportunity to help struggling families with her revised ‘stay home’ order. I am more disappointed in what she didn’t do than what she did.

“She missed a chance to align Michigan with federal guidelines that would allow more people to safely return to their jobs and support their families – jobs that can be done in relative isolation while following social distancing guidelines and other safety precautions. It’s time we look at jobs with the perspective of whether they are safe or unsafe, rather than get into arguments over what is ‘essential’ or ‘non-essential.’

“I will keep working to beat COVID-19 and take steps to get people back to work. I strongly believe Michigan can do both of those things at the same time.”
